Card Payments

The card payment scheme centres around making card payments and cash withdrawals more uniform and secure across the region. This will be completed with the introduction of chip and pin services and SEPA compliant framework cards will be issued by the banks prior to the end of 2010. This does not however mean that all cards will be international cards, it is possible that cards will be "domestic" cards and so useable only within Europe.

For the banks it will also mean a change to their ATMs and terminal services to ensure that they are compliant with the SEPA compliant framework cards being issued.

For the consumer it will make using card services simpler and more consistent across the SEPA region.
